FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - House Speaker Greg Stumbo says the House appearslikely to go along with the budget cuts to higher education proposed by Gov.Steve Beshear.
Stumbo told reporters Friday that House leaders have tried to find ways torestore the money, but he says the money isn't available.
The House budget committee is expected to approve a two-year budget plannext week. House action on the budget is expected next week.
Once the Democratic-led House wraps up its version, budget work will shiftto the Republican-run Senate.
Beshear proposed a 2.5 percent cut in operating funds for universities andcommunity and technical colleges.
Stumbo says the House plans to move ahead with Beshear's recommendations oncapital projects.
