State Director,
Americans for Prosperity
Charleston, 32

Wendy McCuskey has several loves, but one in particular brought the Austin, Texas native to the Mountain State for good.

McCuskey, 32, of Charleston, fell in love with a fellow lover of politics, making her decision to settle in West Virginia an easy one. McCuskey attended Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas, where she majored in political science.

Her role as the state director for Americans for Prosperity, although a new one, is something the political go-getter is passionate about.

"Politics follow me everywhere," she said simply.

McCuskey explained that AFP is an organization of grassroots leaders who engage citizens in the name of limited government and free markets on the local, state and federal levels. AFP activists advocate for public policies that champion the principles of entrepreneurship and fiscal and regulatory restraint.

She says she enjoys her job so much, she never feels overwhelmed and is lucky to love what she's doing enough that it doesn't feel like a job. But for stress relief, she cleans.

Once part of George W. Bush's campaign trail, McCuskey said she met her husband, Delegate John B. McCuskey, R-Kanawha, while on the job. She then located in Kanawha County for love, and the pair have been married for eight years. McCuskey said although the couple has no children, she has a very spoiled dog named Sidney.
