Home invasion suspect crashes car, flown to local hospital

Lawrence County Sheriff Deputies say a burglary suspect has been shot multiple times and is now at a local hospital.

According to deputies, Joseph F. Willis forced his way into a home in Lawrence County, Northeast of Knitts Hill.  

Dispatchers received a call at approximately 2:10 p.m. of a burglary in progress. Deputies say the homeowner was in the residence at the time and had a gun. He shot at Willis multiple times, hitting him in the cheek and abdomen.

According to deputies, Willis left the house and crashed his car into a ditch approximately half a mile from the home. He was airlifted to a local hospital and is in stable condition. 

Deputies say the homeowner did not know Willis.

Willis will be charged with aggravated burglary. No charges have been filed against the homeowner. 


A home invasion suspect has been shot and is now at a local hospital.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department say a man was shot by a possible homeowner during an attempted home invasion at 256 Township Road in Lawrence County, OH. 

According to deputies, the alleged suspect left the scene after being shot. He then crashed his vehicle into a ditch. 

The suspect was flown to a local hospital.
