Going to the DMV can be a hassle for some people.
Now, the Department of Motor Vehicles is trying to make it a little bit easier by offering some of its services online.
Samantha McWilliams is from Calhoun County, but had to come to the Charleston DMV Regional Office to take care of some business.
"That is kind of a nuisance and with gas prices like they are, it takes a while to get here," she said.
McWilliams and others said they are happy to hear most people now have the option to renew their vehicle registration online. Drivers can also request a duplicate registration card online.
"Very convenient, helpful and useful," Williams said.
The service is available for people in 43 counties. It's limited to passenger vehicles under 10,000 pounds and motorcycles.
"The class-A vehicles are the vast majority of the cars and pickup trucks you see on the road," said Steve Dale, commissioner with the Division of Motor Vehicles.
Dale said by offering more services online, it will cut down on the wait times at the regional offices.
"I think it will be great. I think the more they can do online would help a lot of people, especially those who have to travel a distance to get here," said Lloyd Kister.
To renew online, all you need is your registration card, personal property tax ticket and insurance certificate.
Drivers call also view their driving record online, pay their driver's license reinstatement fees, and request a duplicate registration card, decal, or plate.
Dale said the DMV will continue to expand its online services. Within the next two years, drivers will also be able to renew their driver's license online, he said.
