    The West Virginia Autism Training Center is expanding its reach in the state. WV ATC, located at Marshall University in Huntington, has partnered with Concord University to develop on-campus support in Athens for students who are diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder.

    The West Virginia Child Advocacy Network and West Virginia Coalition Against Domestic Violence are getting help from Verizon's HopeLine program to help those affected by domestic violence and child abuse.

 On May 10, a record number of 330 candidates for degrees and certificates will gather at the Summersville Arena and Conference Center in Summersville.

New River Community and Technical College will host its 11th commencement exercises beginning at 10:30 a.m., with more than 1,000 guests expected to attend the event.

L. Marshall Washington, the third president of New River CTC, will preside at the commencement exercises, with Amy Sue DeSonia, vice president of academic affairs, awarding the degrees and certificates.

The commencement speaker and Nebraska native will be Summersville Mayor Robert Shafer. Shafer came to West Virginia in 1992 after serving 10 years in the U.S. Marine Corps. Since 1992, he has owned and operated Shafer Insurance Associates, LLC and currently serves as the board chair for the Summersville Regional Medical Center. Shafer is also an executive committee member with the Region IV Planning and Development Council and serves on the New River Community and Technical College Foundation Nicholas County Board of Advisors.
