UPDATE: Charleston, WV officials add additional road closures for Hot Rod Power Tour

According to a press release issued by the City of Charleston, WV the eastbound lanes of Kanawha Boulevard are now closed at Florida Street for additional cars participating in the Hot Rod Power Tour. The westbound lanes remain open Ohio Avenue going west. 
Athletes from 28 different counties across WV will participate this weekend in Special Olympics being held in Charleston, WV. Also, the West Virginia Pride Parade and Hot Rod Power Tour, which is set to begin on Monday, Jan. 9, will cause traffic delays for commuters traveling in and out of the city this weekend. Here is a list of road closures in Charleston, WV that start on Friday, June 6 through Monday, June 9 according to a news release issued by the Mayor of Charleston, WV's office:

On Friday, June 6: Kanawha Boulevard will be closed between Clendenin Street and Capitol Street at 5:30 pm in preparation for the Moses Auto Groups Live on the Levee concert and Opening Ceremony for the West Virginia Special Olympics Summer Games.

On Sunday June 8: Kanawha Boulevard will be closed from Pennsylvania Avenue to Capitol Street in order to prepare for the West Virginia Pride parade and street fair. Westbound lanes of the Boulevard will remain open from Clendenin to Pennsylvania. The parade will take begin at 1:30 p.m. from the Boulevard and down through Haddad Riverfront Park by the Schoenbaum Stage .Also on Sunday June 8: After the Pride event, closure of the Boulevard extends east to Greenbrier Street in preparation for overnight set-up for the Hot Rod Power Tour.

On Monday, June 9 starting at 9 a.m.: Closure of Kanawha Boulevard will extend to Ohio Avenue in preparation for the first arrival of cars, sometime after 10 a.m. One westbound lane of Kanawha Boulevard will remain open from Clendenin to Pennsylvania. On-street parking will also be restricted on several side streets from the Boulevard because of the event.On Monday June 9, in the evening: The Boulevard will reopen after all the cars and vendors have departed and the street has been cleaned, probably after 8 p.m.

Drivers attending these events or trying to reach a destination within the city are advised to take some extra time to reach their destination.
