Statewide Special Olympics take over Charleston, WV

CHARLESTON, WV -
Athletes from all over West Virginia are in Charleston this weekend for the Special Olympic games.
29 counties and approximately 1,200 athletes are participating in this year's events.
Athletes participated in track and field, swimming, golf, archery, and tennis events.
Volunteers say working at the West Virginia Special Olympics is extremely rewarding.
"You can't really put into words the rewards you get from doing this," volunteer Tabitha Lair said. "Once you're here, working with the athletes, it's a blessing beyond measure."
The Special Olympics run through Sunday, June 8 at many locations across Charleston including Laidley Field, University of Charleston and the YMCA.
25 WV athletes qualified for the U.S. Special Olympics.
