Melissa Bennett and L.J. Hambrick were arrest Tuesday morning after they stole close to fifty thousand dollars in cash. The pair took the money from a home in Alderson June 6th. Police were notified at the time of the burglary but did not catch the suspects in the act.
Alderson Police Chief J.M. Bennett said an elderly gentleman reported that appropriately fifty one thousand dollars were stolen out of his residence. Police arrested the suspects at the Motor Lodge in Rainelle. Officers said they were tipped off to the couple's location because of their large spending.
When police searched the motel room, they found the stolen money as well as purchased lotto tickets and drug paraphernalia. The two also bought two vehicles and an ATV with the stolen cash.
The investigation is still ongoing, but the couple admitted to entering the residence and stealing the money.
