Bridgeport Resident Asks For Indicted Mayor Mario Blount's Resignation

Posted: Updated:
BRIDGEPORT - During the Bridgeport City Council meeting Monday, June 23 a Bridgeport resident took a stand and asked for Mayor Mario Blount resign.

Stephen Mcelroy said Blount had said in the past he would like to do what’s best for Bridgeport. He also said the Bridgeport community does not need to be divided with worry of corruption of government.

Mcelroy said the community needs to stand united and address the controversy regarding Blount's drug indictments. Mcelroy is petitioning to remove Blount from office.

“Section 20 of the city charter allows for a citizen petition for recall of the mayor. It requires 10 percent of the registered voters in Bridgeport to recall and then a special election would be held if necessary,” said Mcelroy, a Bridgeport resident.

Bridgeport City Council continued with its regular meeting business. It approved for paving and resurfacing of city streets and passed an ordnance, allowing the city to make minor amendments to the Home Rule Plan.
