Four West Virginia residents face arson charges in an insurance fraud case in the Laurel Valley area of Harrison County.

The state fire marshal’s office has charged homeowners George and Rebecca Bonnell with conspiring with Sammy “Joey” Oldaker and Chad E. Cook to burn their residence for more than $171,000 in insurance money in December 2011. No ages or addresses were available.

The Bonnell’s and Oldaker have been charged with first-degree arson, burning insured property and conspiracy. The Bonnells and Oldaker posted bond after they were taken into custody on Friday, July 25. Cook, who was a work-release inmate at the Beckley Correctional Center (BCC) when investigators with interviewed him about the fire in May, escaped from the jail the following day. He was recaptured July 20 in Roanoke, Va., where he remains in custody pending extradition.

Officials in the Fire Marshal’s office said they expect to charge Cook when he is returned to West Virginia.
