A consumer advocacy website has ranked the top 10 communities for home ownership in West Virginia, and placed the Kanawha County town of Sissonville at the top.

In an effort to help potential home buyers as renting becomes less affordable, the group NerdWallet assessed the current housing market, basing its rankings on home ownership rate; selected monthly homeowner costs; monthly household income and population growth.

Topping NerdWallet's list was Sissonville, which the group said is the fastest-growing place in West Virginian with an 8.09% jump in population from 2010-2012 based on census figures.

Rounding out the top 10, in order of their ranking, were Nitro, Cheat Lake, Hurricane, Bridgeport, Cross Lanes, New Martinsville, Point Pleasant, Oak Hill and Vienna.
