The father of Kevin Ward Jr. said Tuesday that there was "no reason" for Tony Stewart to be driving the way that he was Saturday night in a dirt track race.

Ward Jr. had exited his car to confront Stewart after the NASCAR champion bumped the 20-year-old into a wall at a dirt track race in New York state.

"I think the reason he probably got out of that car is who put him into the wall. He was definitely put into the wall," Ward Sr. told the Syracuse Post-Standard, later adding, "Tony Stewart was the best damn driver by far on the track that night. Why he had to go up as high as he did and hog my son, there's no reason for it."

An investigation into the events is ongoing and is expected to last at least two more weeks. And while the sheriff has said that there is no evidence available to support criminal activityon Stewart's part, there are reports that a second, unreleased video is being scrutinized to determine if the incident could have been avoided.

For his part, Ward Sr. seems perplexed to why other drivers could see his son, but Stewart could not.

"Apparently, Tony Stewart was the only one driving out there who didn't see him," he told the paper, adding, "The one person that knows what happened that night is possibly facing 10 years in prison. Is he going to say what he done?"

Another driver that night, Paul Kinney, said he easily saw Ward Jr. on the track.

"I seen Kevin clear as day. Nobody else ran into him, either," he told NBC News, via theNew York Post. "Nobody can speak for Tony. Only Tony knows exactly what happened."
