A man was sentenced for assaulting his girlfriend in Wellston, Ohio, in Jackson County.
According to a news release issued by Jackson County, OH Prosecuting Attorney Justin Lovett, Donnie Jenkins was sentenced to four years in prison.
The news release says Jenkins assaulted his girlfriend in April of 2013. She suffered severe injuries, which required immediate medical attention.
The news release goes on to say she did not want charges pursued on Jenkins, however, Prosecuting Attorney Justin Lovett continued to pursue the case.
Lovett stated that "It is not uncommon for victims of domestic violence to want charges dropped against their assailant. Even though the victim made the request in this case, I continued pursuing the felony case against Jenkins."
Jenkins, who is currently incarcerated at the Correctional Reception Center in Orient, OH, eventually plead guilty to felonious assault.
In addition to serving four years in prison, Jenkins was also ordered to pay court costs, and if he fails to do so, may result in community service.
The news release says once Jenkins serves his full sentence, he may be subject to three years of post-release control, and that any violation of this will result in further imprisonment.
