WHEELING - Wheeling police were called to Interstate 70 eastbound in the area of Wheeling Tunnel for a man they say had fallen off a moving tractor trailer about 1 a.m. Thursday.

Officers said they saw a white male running east on Chapline Street near the Federal building towards the Chase Bank drive-thru and made contact with him on 12th Street. He was identified as Rodney Logan King, 37, of Martins Ferry, Ohio. King told officers he had fallen off a tractor trailer in the tunnel.

King told police he had been drinking at a downtown bar, saw a tractor trailer parked in the 7-11 parking lot and climbed aboard in hopes of hitching a ride to see family in Pennsylvania.

As the truck headed north on Market Street and east through the tunnel, King told police it began to pick up speed and he lost his grip and fell to the ground.

King suffered a bump to the head along with minor cuts and scrapes to his arms and knees. Police said when King failed a breathalyzer test he was taken into custody and transported to Ohio Valley Medical Center, where he was later released from. He was issued a citiation for public intoxication and his parents were notified, police said.
