FAYETTE COUNTY, WV -

One man is dead following an officer-involved shooting in Mount Hope, West Virginia after he reportedly stabbed two people and pointed a gun at police Monday night, state troopers said.

State Police Sgt. K.D. Horrocks says Mount Hope police received a call of an intoxicated man with a knife on Dec. 14. When officers got on scene, the suspect was carrying a shotgun in the front yard of a Fayette County home.

The man refused to drop the weapon and pointed his firearm in the direction of the approaching officers, Horrocks said.

Mount Hope police fired several rounds at the suspect, troopers say.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to troopers.

Horrocks said the man also stabbed two victims in the home. Both were taken to the hospital.

A three-year-old child was removed from the home and is in the custody of Child Protective Services, troopers say.

The names of the suspects and victims are not being released at this time.
