Savvy Ways to Stretch Your Budget

Who doesn't love a good deal?

"Its all about maneuvering through the marketplace to get the best bargain you can," Kathy L. McKinley Director of Community Relations, Goodwill Industries of Kanawha Valley, Inc.

Kathy McKinley is a busy working mom.  She and her co-workers at the Goodwill of Kanawha Valley love to find a bargain, and one way they do that is with coupons.

"You can also stack store coupons on top of the manufactures coupons," said Cathy Haupt,  Vocational Case Manager at Goodwill, "so if you have a coupon for $.15 off from the manufacture and you also have a store coupon then you can also add both of those together."

Cathy says to remember your time is important too.

"If it says only three per customer for something that's on sale, you can get back in line several times and get more," said Cathy, "You don't have to wait until another day!"

Both women agree, you should never throw away your extra coupons.  Trade them with co-workers, friends, church groups or at your daycare.

"People put them on a bulletin board," said Kathy, "I no longer use formula but I still get the coupons, so someone else can use it before it expires and save the money."

And make sure you check with your favorite store for double coupon days, or discount days for seniors or armed services.

Online shopping and reward points are another way to save big, Kathy says consider free services like Plenti.com.

"It saves on tons of places," said Kathy, "In the end turn it in for discounts its a one card reward that works in different places."

Kathy says when you build up 1000 Plenti points you can get up to $10 off on a purchase in store and online.

Speaking of online shopping, we got a behind the scenes tour of shopgoodwill.com, where there are some great bargains to be found.

"We don't mark anything up every auction starts at $6.99 and most auction last 7-10 days," said Kathy.

And, if it something you like up for auction is in a nearby goodwill center, you can pick it up and avoid shipping costs.

And, they have something for everyone.

"If you need a chaffing dish and a circular saw - you might be in the right place," said Kathy.

And, I even found a remote control spider!  What child doesn't need this?

You can also find silver, lenox and a rainbow trout.. really!

And all the money goes back to local programs with Goodwill, its like guilt free shopping.

Kathy says you are only limited by your imagination when shopping at the Goodwill store, I was able to put together a hostess gift basket for less than $10!

One last tip, involves those coupon codes.

Kathy never shops online without searching first for those.  If you don't have one, check to see if someone else does.

"Go to eBay and type in what you need and it will pop up codes you can buy," said Kathy,"codes can cost you .99 cents, but then you could save $20 bucks on a purchase."

And, that's not a bad trade-off!

Don't forget to sign up for text and email coupons from your favorite store or restaurants.  And, check their social media pages and apps for special deals too!
