Patrick Simon joins 13 News as co-anchor alongside Jennifer Abney for the 5, 6, 7 and 11pm news.
For 27 years, Patrick has covered compelling and historic stories in Louisiana and North Carolina from the devastation and recovery in the wake of hurricanes Andrew, Katrina and Rita to Hillary Clinton’s last stand in the 2008 Democratic primary against eventual party nominee Barack Obama. He also covered the Columbia space shuttle tragedy (including an interview with Former NASA Director Sean O’Keefe) and live, non-scripted coverage of the capture of serial killer Derrick Todd Lee.
Patrick's passion is finding solutions for his viewers. In fact, some of his investigations have led to legislative action, like his in-depth reports on water and ground contamination from an abandoned toxic site affecting an Asheville, NC community to a series of reports on the dangers of cyberbullying and legal action taken against an accused teenager.
Patrick is most proud of his stories that have had a heartfelt impact on the lives of viewers, like his Emmy-award nominated report “The Gift of Life” which featured a rare in-person meeting between a longtime blood donor and his recipient who desperately depended on his donation.
A veteran of the Iraq War, Patrick has served his community, state and country as an officer in the Army National Guard and Reserves. Lieutenant Colonel Patrick Simon still serves in the Army Reserves as an instructor at the Command and General Staff Officer College.
Patrick enjoys the outdoors and traveling with his family (the furrier ones too) and hopes to find new adventures here in West Virginia. Got any trip tips? Please let him know.
