Charleston: The Haunted

Posted: Updated:

It's well known that Charleston is home to some of the most haunted places in West Virginia.

For decades, something has been lurking around the old Frankenberger mansion on Virginia Street.

A ghostly presence is trying to get attention.

Radio executive Noel Richardson has been working in this building for 20 years and has seen and heard many things that cannot be explained.

"We've heard noises. We've seen this ... the lights have gone out ... just little goofy things ...things you don't have an explanation for," said Richardson.

Like the time Richardson says he was working on a rooftop satellite dish at 2am. He said he turned this light switch on ... went down the steps ... and the light went out.

"So i came back in ... walked over ... turned the light switch on ... came back out  and I looked and I saw that switch go click (off)," said Richardson.

He thinks the ghost preferred the dark.

The West Virginia Radio Group is housed right in the middle of the old Frankenberger mansion. The Frankenbergers,  a prominent 19th century Charleston family, were the wealthy owners of a popular men's clothing store on Capitol Street.

Noel Richardson said in one room on the mansion's second floor, Mr. Frankenberger had an affair with a maid. then 9 months later their illegitimate child mysteriously disappeared .. possibly ... buried somewhere in the basement.

"Probably in the basement ... most likely behind one of the hidden walls ... so the story is she still haunts the house," said Richardson.

And she's not going away

"Maybe she trying to get some kind of attention ... help me ... lets make amends with the Frankenberger family," said Richardson.

She wants answers and she's not leaving until she gets them.
