Marshall University holds 47th Annual Plane Crash Memorial Service

HUNTINGTON, WV (WOWK) - 47 years ago Marshall University suffered an unimaginable loss after a plane crash killed members of the Thundering Herd football team and many of their supporters.

Today thousands will gather on campus for the 47th Annual Memorial Fountain Ceremony to honor and remember the those lost in the tragic plane crash.

Today's keynote speaker will be the grandson of two of the 75 people lost that night. Fisher Cross is a senior sports management student here at Marshall and will take the stage today as the first person born post-tragedy to speak at the annual ceremony.

During the ceremony, the fountain's water is turned off and will remain silent until spring.
